Quality Assurance
College Quality
ACT is subject to the Technological Education Quality Assurance System to assure the compliance of the qualifications awarded by the colleges with the set of standards. This system is issued by a ministerial decision. (Article 93).
A technical committee chaired by the Director General, and the membership of the college Deans is formed by the Undersecretary. Its duties include verifying the colleges’ abidance by implementing the standards of quality assurance in accordance with the set criteria; and suggesting amendments on the quality assurance system in a way that enables the educational process in the colleges to keep pace with the technological changes and developments. (Article 94).
The dean sets up a committee, chaired by him or the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, to verify the implementation of the standards of quality assurance.
Program Implementation
A technical committee chaired by the Director General and the membership of the Deans is formed to look into any difficulties arising during the implementation of the academic program or its meeting the practical requirements. The committee presented its recommendations to the Undersecretary. Such recommendations are valid only after the Minister’s approval, and should not include any amendments to the provisions of these bylaws, as it is essential, in that case, to follow the necessary procedures. (Article 57).
Programs with Quality Assurance
ACT cooperates with QAD for all Quality Assurance related matters. Any new programs, affiliations for programs, or quality assurance related issues are directed by QAD. The college is a member of the Oman Quality Network (OQN). The college is also part of co-curricular activity programs such as Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) of ACCA(UK) and International Computer Driving License (ICDL), Cisco Local Training Center, under the supervision of the Higher College of Technology-Cisco Regional Networking Academy, a partnership with Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. The ACT Local Academy is a Cisco-authorized training center that delivers CCNA training courses for students who are exiting from different levels of IT programs to prepare them for industry- recognized certification and IT careers.
All programs that are certified by external Professional Bodies are arranged for group of students, and appropriate training is provided to them. ACT will continue to facilitate and get further program to meet the current market needs.
Quality Assurance Office and Committees
The Quality Assurance Office and a number of committees are formed to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the College. QAO supervised the development of the self study reports needed to prepare the QA Portfolio. There are nine committees that provide means by which staff becomes involved in the decision making process. Committees usually meet on a monthly basis or whenever deemed necessary to discuss and propose actions related to their terms of reference. The outcomes are then discussed and relevant decisions or approvals are made at the College Council level.
