Advisement
Academic advising is one of the responsibilities of the academic staff and part of the teaching and learning process. Advisors help students in registration, maintain their academic records and meet with them regularly to discuss problems related to academics.
Student Advisor
Academic Advisors play a major role in advising students and monitoring them throughout their life in the College. Advisees are assigned to advisors at the beginning of the semester. Advisors are responsible for:
- Advising students about courses to be taken and guiding them in the registration process.
- Keeping track of all student details in an advisement file that includes their Degree Audit, Grade Point Average(GPA) and Cumulative GPA (CGPA).
- Meeting the advisees at least three times a semester (including at registration), dealing with issues like continuous absences, sick leave, study postponement, disciplinary actions, etc., as per the Student Handbook.
- Preparing lists of students: probation, OJT/EPT, promotion, Dean’s Honor Roll, candidates for graduation.
- Department registrars liaise between academic advisors and the registration department of Student Affairs Office for student registration, absences, examinations, and results.
Student Advisement Policy
ACT ensures that all students receive an opportunities for appropriate advising upon registration. It sets in place a process for timely advisement of students on course requirements, level progress, and they keep students with information about the college program. Download and view the policy.
Advising Procedure
- After completing the foundation program, the certificate students receive academic advisement registration for the semester and those who continue studies come for the admissions.
- Advisors explain to the students about the academic information such as credit hours, GPA, CGPA calculations, Academic probation and courses selection. (College Bylaws Articles 48, 51 to 53, 65 and degree audit.)
- Advisors prepare advisory action plans for the semester to track and monitor student’s progress.
- Advisor’s counseling to the students must be documented and signed both by the Advisee and the Advisor.
- Advisors meet the advisee for counseling and follow up of the academic progress of the student at-least two times in a semester or as necessary.
- Advisors document the counseling session and submit a report to the HoS to take up an appropriate action, if needed.
- Advisors arrange for make-up examinations for the advisee with valid evidence and must be approved by the HoD.
- Advisors conduct separate meeting for students with slow learning capabilities and poor academic performance. Advisors arrange session meetings with the concerned course lecturers to follow up the student’s academic performance.
Registration after Advising
From the advised courses, registration of student will follow. A timeframe of one week is given for courses registration while adding / dropping of courses is made within the first two days after the registration week.
