Student Admission

As an incoming student your admission is based on the entry standards stated in the College Bylaws. Admission to General Foundation Program is done centrally by the Higher Education Commission Admission Center (HEAC). All Omani high school graduates who satisfy the criteria are eligible for admission.

The Ministry of Manpower determines the number of students to be accepted and the minimum marks for entry. These students are distributed throughout the technical colleges in the Sultanate of Oman. Each semester, ACT receives the list of students and uploads the same list to Ministry database using the online registration system.

Student Qualification Levels

Upon admission to the General Foundation Program, you have to take a placement test in the English Language Centre. Your level in ELC (pre-elementart, elemerntary, intermediate or advanced) is based on the result of your test.

Student whose scores is from 0 - 20 is placed in Level One, 21 - 50 is placed in Level Two, 51 - 70 is placed in Level Three and 71 - 85 is placed in Level Four, respectively. Student with 86 marks and above is considered high flyer. He/she is given the chance to set for the Level Four Test, in which if the score 50% and above he/she is considered PASSED. Afterwhich he/she is given three other tests which include TOEFL, keyboard skills (IT), and Application of Numbers (AN). Once he/she pass these three tests, he/she is eligible to be admitted directly to certificate level in the Post Foundation Program. Student’s specialization program will be determined by the Ministry of Higher Education Acceptance Center. But if they failed, they will continue in Level Four: Advanced Level.

Once enrolled in the General Foundation Program, you have to undergo two years of study in the ELC. You will only be eligible for the academic department programs only after you pass mathematics, computing, and obtain the minimum grade in English Language Courses/ Levels and in-house TOEFL or IELTS exams/test as prescribe by Ministry of Manpower. In case you fail in any of the semesters, you will have the opportunity to repeat the level once.

After completion, you are admitted to the academic departments which were decided at the time of your admission to General Foundation Program. Student’s progression from level to level is based on their CGPA and TOEFL. The whole process is administered through the Ministry of Manpower Central Registration System (MCRS).

Exemption Policy

You may be exempted from the Placement Test provided that your TSS must be not less than the minimum mark admitted in college in the current year and that you can produce proof of required English Proficiency such as TOEFL or IELTS tests scores. Then, you are requested to set for Level Four, AN and IT tests. Once you passed the three sets of tests, you will be admitted to post foundation program otherwise you will continue to Level Four: Advanced Level.
