Graduation Ceremony 2017
During the special ceremony, a total of six hundred and forty nine (649) graduates were awarded: 335 students with a Bachelor’s Degree, 40 with an Advanced Diploma and 274 with a Diploma.
The prestigious ACT Graduation Ceremony was held at the college campus on 30th October 2017 at 7.00 P.M.
After the formal inauguration with the rendition of the Holy Quran, the College Dean, Dr. Issa Saif Mohammed Al Tubi, addressed the gathering.
In his welcome message, the Dean congratulated the successful graduates for their hard work, contribution and achievements. He said that the technical college, in collaboration with other technical colleges, had witnessed a qualitative leap in its facilities and was now equipped with state-of-the-art technological systems supporting scientific and training programs.He expressed satisfaction with the improved technological facilities available at ACT, which would help to prepare graduates for the labor market through practical training.
He highlighted student achievements and highlights of the past year – 2016-17-particularly, the efforts of the engineering team(ZILZAL) which won them a second place in the Robotics Challenge Competition. Later, they had won the first place among the GCC countries in the competition held at Qatar. The same project, moreover, had won the second place in the competition in Bahrain.
The Dean said that the college, thus, believed strongly in the importance of funding student projects, especially the Research Council funding of four projects and the fact that these projects had won top places locally and internationally proved that they were right in doing so. This had strengthened the college stance in funding student projects and brought the number up to sixteen over the past 3 years.
In addition to achievements in student projects, the Dean said the College Football team had made us proud by winning the tournament at the Higher Colleges of Technology championships.
Further, the national football league team had won the second place in the Asian Championships in China, thus qualifying them to participate in the World Cup to be held in the Republic of Kazhakstan in 2018.
The college also won the second place in the first Theatre Forum held at Sohar University.
The Dean expressed his sincere gratitude to the academic and non-academic staff members of ACT for their sincere efforts to improve the educational process. He also congratulated the parents for their contribution and sacrifices. He invoked Allah's blessings on all of Oman, wishing its prosperity and continuous progress under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
The occasion was graced by His Excellency, Sheikh Saba’a bin Hamdan Al Saadi, Secretary General of the Higher Committee for National Day Celebrations. Sheikh Saba’a bin Hamdan Al Saadi expressed his happiness on the grand celebration. He awarded certificates to the successful graduates and lauded the college authorities and the students for their active participation.
The occasion was also graced by special guests and patrons of the Graduation Ceremony, Her Excellency: Dr. Muna bint Salim Al-Jardani, Undersecretary at the Manpower Ministry for Technical Education and Vocational Training and other honorable figures of excellence, including director generals of governmental and private institutions, academic and non-academic staff of ACT.
During the special ceremony, a total of six hundred and forty nine (649) graduates were awarded: 335 students with a Bachelor’s Degree, 40 with an Advanced Diploma and 274 with a Diploma. Department-wise, Business Studies graduated 261 students, Engineering, 254 and Information Technology, 134.
Lively, celebratory music ended the certificate distribution with the proud graduates smiling and waving their certificates in the air for the waiting cameras. The grand event ended with the hope that the new batch of graduates in the Sultanate would play a pivotal role in building the future of Oman.
This year, the venue was brightly lit up with colourful strobe lighting, in shades of shocking pink, purple, orange, green and white. Parents, children and family members had come with colorful bouquets and gifts, anxious to felicitate the proud graduate in their family. A highlight of the venue this year was the Selfie wall where graduates and their families were excited to take photographs and also to sign their names on the Signature Wall arranged by the ETC.
A drone was observed flying overhead and taking aerial shots of the event.
All in all, it was a vibrant and colourful annual event that brought staff, students and parents together on a pleasant October evening.
