The familiar and the new converged in a very interesting way in two workshops organized by the ELC Staff Development Program on October 2 and 9, 2018.
The new was exemplified by the workshop on Padlet conducted on October 2, 2018 by Mr. Abdulla Said Jamil Al-Hasmi. Padlet is an application to create an online bulletin board that teachers can use to display images, links, videos, and more on any topic. The unique features of Padlet make it an effective collaboration tool to help quickly get students engaged. The ELC lecturers who attended were treated to a host of instructional uses of the application in their own classrooms.
The familiar was represented in the workshop on October 9, 2018 dealing with a long-trusted part of a teacher’s arsenal—the Powerpoint application. Ms. Afrah Mohamed Suliman Al-Salmi demonstrated a fascinating array of shortcuts and hidden features in the Powerpoint program that most teachers are not aware of. The attendees appreciated the information and came out of the workshop eager to try out the newly revealed features in their next presentations.
The two workshops are part of the Staff Development Program’s list of activities for school year 2018-2019 which aims, among others, to encourage a culture of professional sharing, cooperation and collaboration among ELC lecturers.
