About ACT

The Ministry of Manpower has established the college to provide quality education to the youth of Oman. ACT opened its doors in 1993 and more than a quarter of a century later, it remains committed to delivering high quality teaching, learning and research to develop students’ potential and making a significant contribution to national economic development.

Located in the southern Al Batinah Region, Al Musanna College of Technology is recognized as one of the premier technological colleges committed to building a sustainable infrastructure, skilled human resources, and an excellent student body to meet the changing demands of education and job market.

ENGINEERING DEPT OF ACT

The Engineering Department converges research and technology transfer to create new ideas and magnificent inventions. We have established an environment in which our faculty, staff, and students can engage in interdisciplinary thrust areas. Our graduates can excel to hold the best promise as future technologists and engineers.

The Engineering Department has three sections, namely: the Electrical and Electronics Section, Mechanical and Industrial Section, and  the Civil and Architectural Section.

IEEE-Oman is the leading professional organization of Electrical & Electronics Engineers in the Sultanate of Oman.!

Mission

IEEE Oman's core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

There are 3 active IEEE Chapters in Oman & one WIE Chapter

Presently, there are 13 IEEE student branches in Oman!

IEEE STUDENT BRANCH (STB 20135) OF ACT

Towards empowering the students of ACT with professional skills to reach out the market, the Department of Engineering under the able guidance of the Dean, the ADAA and the ADSA seeded the idea of starting the IEEE Students Branch (IEEE-SB - STB20135), which was inaugurated on the 16th of May 2016 by Dr.Ahmed Al Namani, IEEE - Vice Chairman , Oman section.

Since the inception, the IEEE – SB of ACT has been vibrant and proved the most active in the Oman section. The GCC Students and Young Professionals Congress (SYP Congress) is an event that will take place every two years in GCC Region. During the Congress, a wide variety of workshops, competitions and activities were organized, dealing with interesting topics in diverse technical fields and also related to soft skills. Various competitions were conducted during the SYP congress mainly focusing on technical feasibility, efficiency and innovation of the proposed solutions as well as testing the creativity of the participants from various GCC Countries.

2nd IEEE OMAN SYP CONGRESS @ ACT

VISION

To inspire, engage and encourage young generation to be mutually beneficial by gaining the skills to leverage among others.

GOALS

SYP’s main goal is to motivate the new youth generation to drive the economic growth of Sultanate of Oman by their innovative ideas. Moreover, it is focused to develop technical and communication skills through various workshops from local enterprises. In addition, it enhances and fosters the engineering passion and capabilities through different technical and social activities. It also allows the students to share their practical and theoretical ideas and achievements. Furthermore, it opens the students’ horizon and enriches their knowledge to explore various channels that may adopt and invest in their small projects. Last but not least, it provides an opportunity to network and interact among young researchers, faculty members and technology leaders from the region.

1. Graduation Project Competition - Rules and Regulations

  • The student should prepare a poster (A1 Size)
  • The project should be in the area of Electrical, Electronics and Computing.
  • The organizing committee will assign judges for selecting the two winning teams.
  • The maximum number of members per team is TWO members.
  • The maximum number of teams participating from one College / University is THREE.

2. Robotic Challenge Competition – Guidelines & Timeline

  • For rules and regulations of each round of the competitions, please visit event website: www.act.edu.om
  • The maximum number of members per team is three (3) members.
  • The maximum number of teams participating from each student branch is two (2).
  • Participants in each team should be active IEEE student members and between ages of 18 to 25.
  • The organizing committee will assign judges for selecting the two (2) winning teams.
  • Last date for registration is 05th March 2020.
  • Winners and Runners will be awarded prizes
  • All participants will be given certificates
  • All tasks/rounds should be done with Autonomous Robots.
  • Round Description/Robot Description/Arena Description and Judging Criteria for each round is given in the website.
  • Same Microcontroller (any type) should be used in all rounds except final round.
  • Robot structure can change for different rounds provided it meets the specification of that round.
  • If the robots do not meet the specification of any round, the Robot will not be allowed to participate in that round.
