Author: Ms. Jayashree Rajendran, BS Department

The Student Academic Activities Committee, in association with the Socialization Committee of ACT, organized a visit on 14 November 2019, to the Al Wafa Centre for Rehabilitation of Disabled Children at Rustaq, in an effort to involve students in Community Engagement programmes.

A Business Society group, accompanied by Ms. Kavitha Shanmugam & Ms. R. Jayashree, Faculty members from the Department of Business Studies, visited the institution.  The organizing committee received a sponsorship of 70 OMR worth of story books and stationery items from Dar Al Hikma, Rustaq for the event. The Business Society students and faculty members donated stationery items required for the institution.

The school is comprised of 70 special children, with 24 volunteers to serve them. Ms. Kalsa Mohammed Shamis Al Oufi, leader of the volunteers, spoke briefly about the history and development of the school, since inception. She explained that the main objective of the Center was to prepare students to start their own projects and become self-reliant in the community.

The craft work produced by the students was found to be astonishing.  The commitment and dedication of the volunteers was remarkable. Our students conducted some competitions and events for the special children that drew a smile on their faces and stood by them to help them.

On the whole, the visit inculcated in the minds of our students’ a great sense of social awareness and responsibility. They also learned about the skills and competencies that are required to facilitate and serve the community.
