A Workshop on ‘Reimagining Teaching and Learning in Higher Education’ hosted by Al Musanna College of Technology.

The Business Studies Department of Al Musanna College of Technology in association with the Business Studies Specialization Committee organized a Training Workshop on “Reimagining Teaching and Learning in Higher Education” on 20 June 2019 to create an awareness and share the best teaching practices to be adopted by the academic fraternity of COT’s. The workshop aimed to impart quality education and reinforced various student-centered methods for the teaching faculty to enhance student learning.

The program began at 9 am with a welcome address by Dr. Mouza Al Habsi, Head, Department of Business Studies. Dr. Hashil Mohammed Al Saadi, Professor, Sultan Qaboos University, was the key note speaker of the day.

He stressed on the need for “Learner Autonomy” to the teaching fraternity, which autonomy in turn will transform the conventional classroom environment and the role of the teacher. The workshop focused on the positive impact this would make on the academic performance of students, enabling them to face challenges and excel in the 21st century.

The two workshop sessions reinforced the importance of learner-centered teaching to the teaching fraternity by focusing on student-oriented lectures and practical sessions in order to make students more active, autonomous, self-directed, creative, critical thinkers and life-long learners. It was a very successful platform for the COT’s to interact with their peers and discuss the dynamic methods and techniques that can be used in course delivery and assessment to enhance student learning.

Overall, the workshop threw light on the obsolete practice of delivering lectures, purely depending on handouts prepared by teachers and faculty members learnt about innovative teaching ideas for the classroom.

The programme concluded at 2 pm with a Valedictory function followed by a Vote of thanks by Mr. Jaffer Ali Khan, Head of Section Accounting. Sohar Port Free Zone was the sponsor for the event.
