Networking Specialization:

 

The growth of networks has created a shortage of qualified people who can implement and maintain networking solutions. This is true especially in places where networks are being built to further advance economic development. To cater to the increasing demands of the labor market and address the growing demand for networking professionals in the Sultanate and across the world, we offer Bachelor’s degree, Advanced Diploma and Diploma in Networking.

This specialization allows students to gain high level skill, understanding and knowledge that are needed to analyze requirements, design, install, configure, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and secure medium sized networks under different environments. As a member of CISCO Local Academy, and by integrating the CISCO academy curriculum in Networking Section, and with the help of the CISCO certified instructors in the Department, students are prepared for industry-recognized certifications (CCNA certification exams) and entry-level information and communication technology careers.

 

Database Systems Specialization:

The goal of offering database as specialization is to produce competent database graduates who can work with extensive knowledge and technical skills needed to design, develop, and maintain databases that meet the requirements of the industry. Students enrolled in this specialization will develop analytical and technical skills for designing, creating, and testing database applications. Also, they will learn to perform data analysis tasks required to manage and analyze large data sets and to extract key knowledge. Students will be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to work individually and in a team while practicing professionalism and observing ethical and legal procedures with the commitment to upholding security and responding to social issues responsibly.

 

Information Security Specialization:

Information Security as a specialization aims to produce highly competent and technically skilled graduates in the broad area of cyber security. In this specialization, we offer integrated and comprehensive curriculum of networking and information security to meet the current requirements of IT industries. The program enables the students to understand the key concepts in information security as they are trained to apply their acquired knowledge to construct and maintain the security infrastructure requirement of an organization. The curriculum provides students a comprehensive understanding of current threat landscape and possible mitigation techniques to reduce risk at an organization to an acceptable level. Students enrolled in Information Security are enabled to create security policies and set security baselines by considering ethical, moral, and legal requirements. They are trained to identify appropriate security controls best suited to meet an organization’s security goals, handle a security incident, and to conduct a network forensic investigation. In this specialization, students also acquire the capability to design, implement, troubleshoot, manage, and audit the networking and security infrastructure of an organization. Overall, this specialization enables a graduate to equip himself/herself of the necessary knowledge and training for a competent IT security expert.

 

 Software Engineering Specialization:

The extensive growth in the field of Software Engineering (SE) has created a demand of qualified and skilled workers who could analyze tons of data and develop high quality software products. At University of Technology and Applied Sciences - Al Musannah, we are offering Bachelor’s degree, Advanced Diploma, and Diploma in Software Engineering. These programs, through the highly specialized IT faculty members will help develop student skills and fulfill the IT- labor market needs.

SE specialization allows students not only to develop software applications but to also apply critical thinking and problem solving using computing skills and mathematics. SE students are learning the various software technologies and their integrations such as integrating embedded technology with Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, and Artificial Intelligence. Graduates of SE are able to work in various IT domains namely; Software Development, Testing, and Database Applications.
