Annually, it is awarded to initiatives that save our world through personal action, environmental projects or sustainability awareness campaigns. Energy Globe 2020 national winner in Oman is Engineering Department at University of Technology and Applied Sciences - Al Musannah with the project entitled, “A Smart and Energy-efficient Aquaponics Greenhouse to Promote Sustainable Farming in the Sultanate of Oman.”
For local communities in arid regions like in parts of Oman, smart and energy-efficient aquaponics systems are cost-effective and environmentally sound. This project shows how engineering methods and innovations can be applied to the agricultural and fisheries sectors and at the same time supports the socio-economic development of Oman.
