The Health and Safety Committee of the English Language Centre conducted a successful fire drill on February 12, 2020. The activity was held in coordination with the College Health and Safety Committee and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Services.
Students and faculty members egressed the Centre in an orderly manner when the alarm went off at 9:15 AM. To lend a realistic touch to the activity, small controlled fires were lit at the two entrances to the ELC building. Non-toxic fumes were also used to simulate the smoke of a real blaze. The Civil Defence team then conducted a mock rescue operation in which four students “trapped” on the rooftop were rescued along with two others who lay “injured” in the cafeteria.
Mr. Poly Paul, ELC-H&S Committee coordinator, expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic cooperation shown by the students, lecturers and staff. He also cited the solid support of the ELC administration and the College H&S Committee and the invaluable assistance lent by the Civil Defense and Ambulance Services.
