The 9th students Forum of Technical Colleges was hosted by the Al Musanna College of Technology from March 1-4 March in the college campus. Participant teams for various competitions were invited from all the seven colleges of Technology.
Datathon 2020 was one such competition that aimed to encourage involvement of the society and engage the young Data Science talents from all colleges of technology to make use of the ministry/government real open data case, as a means for innovation. Students had to utilize open data and explore their solutions in various formula to develop practical solutions, with creative ideas, that can contribute to tackling existing problems, such as inventing technological applications or providing solutions to existing problems.
The team had to come up with a solution to a real data case based on the provided datasets. The jury awarded prizes to the most precise creative solutions. Three diploma students from the IT department Yaqoob Yousuf Said Al Awfi, Murshid Qassem Al Mawali and Asaad Said Al Aairi took up the challenge and won third place with certificates, memento and OMR 350 cash prize sponsored by National Bank of Oman (NBO).
The IT department is proud of its achievement and would like to thank the students for their hard work and efforts. Special mention of thanks to Dr. Divyajyothi MG for supervising the students and Mr. Saleh Abdullah Saleh Albalushi for the overall event management.
The department thanks the HoD-IT Dr. Najiba Said Hamed Alzadjali and HoS Dr. J. Lenin for providing the necessary resources and motivating the students.
