Workshop held by Mathematics Section on Nov. 5, 2019

The ACT Mathematics Section of IT Department hosted a GFP Math Workshop entitled ‘Basic Operational Errors in Mathematics & Sharpening Mathematical Skills’ under Student Activity Program on November 5, 2019 (Tuesday).  The workshop was intended to motivate students to improve their performance in GFP Math.

The programme started with a welcome speech by the HOS, Mathematics Section, Ms Mini Punnolli. Thereafter, student Ms. Nawar Habib Al Balushi (Diploma I – IT Dept) made a presentation by sharing her experiences and difficulties as faced in different courses during her Foundation years. Ms. Nawar also explained the GFP Mechanism with the help of Power Point.  After Nawar’s presentation, Mr. Abdullah Khalid al Zadjali (Diploma – I, Engg Dept) and Mr. Bader Thabit Al Samsami (Level 4 – GFP) also shared their experiences during the Foundation level.  In general, all the three students gave a motivating message to their juniors as to how all the levels in foundation are important and how they should work hard to pass the courses (BM/ PM/ AM) in their respective levels.

Apart from individual live presentations, there were recorded videos of Post Foundation students who shared their experiences and advised their junior friends to study well to pass each level of Foundation.

Finally, Ms. Rana Tarannum gave a presentation on ‘BASIC OPERATIONAL ERRORS IN MATHEMATICS’ and Ms. Blessy Jayaron Jose conducted an exhilarating student activity on methods to carry out basic mathematical calculations without using calculators. Both the activities involved questions that were put up to students and prizes were given to the winners.

The session ended with a talk by student Ms. Nawar Habib Al Balushi, who explained in Arabic the CGPA and IELTS score required to get promoted to higher levels, viz... Foundation to Diploma, Diploma to Advanced Diploma and finally to B. Tech.

An activity on the concepts related to fractions and least common divisor was conducted by Mr. S. Varadharajan at the end of the session.
