The 5th Oman Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-OCPC, 2018)

Author: Ms. Khoula Ali Saleh Al Saadi

A team from the IT department has participated in the 5th Oman Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-OCPC 2018), which was conducted in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) from 16-17 October 2018.

ACM-OCPC is the official National layer of the ACM-ICPC (International), and it is allocated under the ACM-ACPC (Arab) region. Indeed, the ICPC and all its layers has been operating under the auspices of ACM since 1989, and it is the biggest and oldest programming contest that was established since 1970. The contest mainly targets college students from Computer Science and other Information Technology disciplines; where these students meet under one roof, to compete in teams, by designing computer-based programs that solve real-life problems using high-level programming languages such as C, C++ and Java. The contest then qualifies FOUR teams to the Arab Regional contest ACM-ACPC, which will take place in Egypt on 9 November 2018.

Our students Abdul Rahim Yousuf Al-Kiyumi,  Bashair Said Salmeen Al-Saadi, and Asma Khamis Saleh Al Salhi were exposed to  this type of contest for the first time but they managed to solve some complicated  codings. This experience helped and encouraged them to improve their programing skills and knowledge.
