Student Advisement

Academic advising is an essential part of the teaching and learning process. Each student is assigned to an Academic Advisor who happens to be one of the academic Staff.

Student Advisor

Academic Advisors play a major role in advising students and monitoring them throughout their study in the College. Advisees are assigned to advisors at the beginning of the semester. Advisors are responsible for:

  • Advising students about courses to be taken and guiding them in the registration process.
  • Keeping track of all student details in an advisement file that includes their Degree Audit, Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative GPA (CGPA).
  • Meeting the advisees at least three times a semester (including at registration), dealing with issues like continuous absences, sick leave, study postponement, disciplinary actions, etc., as per the Student Handbook.
  • Preparing lists of students: probation, OJT/EPT, promotion, Dean’s Honor Roll, candidates for graduation.

Student Advisement Policy

ACT ensures that all students receive opportunities for appropriate advising upon registration. It sets in place a process for timely advisement of students on course requirements, level progress, and information about the college programs.

Registration after Advising

From the advised courses, registration of students will follow. A time frame of one week is given for course registration while adding / dropping of courses is made within the first two days after the registration week.

Retention and Progression

There are many factors that can affect student academic progress such as hard work, interest, motivation, family support, and environment. The college aims to achieve a high pass rate of students to progress to the next level in a stipulated time in order to provide a steady supply of trained graduates to the job market.

An academic adviser is assigned to each student for advising, guiding, and counseling as well as monitoring the student's progress.

The college closely monitors student retention and progression at the end of every academic semester. Excellent academic performance will qualify for honors and awards.

Moving from Foundation to Specialization(BS/ENGG/IT):

The student can move on to the specialization programs after successfully completing the English Language Level Exit Exam (LEE) of Level4, regardless of failing in MATH/IT, but the student is not allowed to take Advanced IT Skills and MATH in Post Foundation. Assessment and Examination

Assessment methods, standards and moderation procedures are based on the College Bylaws. Student assessment is a continuous process and is integrated in the delivery of the courses prepared by individual lecturers. All departments make sure that the assessment process is not only appropriate but also fair and accurate.

Examination activities such as timetable preparation, invigilation charts preparation, seating arrangement preparation, conducting of examination, and physical security of papers before and after examination are monitored by Examination Committee and other staff assigned. In giving student marks, a grading scale is also used.

Student Assessment Policy

The scope of the assessment policy covers the preparation of examination room, guidelines to be followed before, during and after the examinations, responsibility of invigilators, and other problems related to the examination process.
