Report on Workshop on GeoGebra Software - 26 March 2019.

As a part of our Staff Development Programme, a workshop on GeoGebra software was conducted last month.

“The only way to learn Mathematics is to do Mathematics” - a famous quote by Paul Halmos. The software introduced in this workshop has added a crown to this quote “The only way to learn Mathematics is to visualize and do it”. The Head of the Section, Ms. Mini Punnolli, took the lead to introduce this software tool for Mathematics. Clearly, Geogebra has inspired the ACT teachers of Math to explore and build on its applications.

GeoGebra is a dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education which brings together the use of geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics and calculus in an easy to use package for end users. GeoGebra is available on multiple platforms with its desktop applications for Windows, Mac OS and Linux, with its tablet apps for Android, iPad and Windows and with its web application based on HTML5 technology.

Dr. Kishore Kumar P.K., the speaker of this topic went through the overview of software and implemented the ideas on how to use it for Foundation and Post Foundation level Mathematics courses in Colleges of Technology. He explained about the concepts on graphical representation of functions in Calculus and Differential equations. These basic ideas clarify many queries on Mathematics at the student level.

The workshop is one of a series that will be held in future, using various other concepts of Mathematics and its applications.
