To commemorate ‘World Environment Day’ the Civil & Architectural Engineering Section of Department of Engineering organized an awareness programme for staff on June 5, 2018 and for the students on June 11, 2018.

The main objective of the programme was to emphasize the reduction of single-use plastics in our society. Dr. Smitha Krishna Warrier, ESO (Environmental Society of Oman) member presented the seminar on ‘BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION’. It highlighted, with demonstration, the various sources of plastic waste, the forms of plastics used in our day to day lives and the impact of non-biodegradable plastics upon nature. The seminar also gave valuable insight into the various methods for reducing the consumption of plastics. Ms. Iryne Feniquito, staff of C&A Engineering section also contributed immense support for the session by preparing a questionnaire. After the informative event, a brainstorming session was held for both the staff and students.

The audience gathered took a firm pledge to adopt the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) policy, with regard to curbing the extreme dependence on single-use plastic materials on behalf of conserving our environment and saving MOTHER EARTH.
