This specie of venomous snakes found across the Middle East was seen and identified at the University for the first time.

In order to promote awareness and prevent possible snake threats, the Risk Management Committee (RMC) carried out all precautionary measures regarding this issue. In addition, RMC organized an online awareness session via MS Teams for the UTAS-A cleaning and maintenance staff on 16th December 2020 with Mr. Kedar Chimote as speaker. Mr. Kedar is a lecturer from the Engineering Department of UTAS-A and a national snake handler and wildlife rescue member for Cobra Adventure and Nature Club in India.

During the session, Mr. Kedar explained several safety precautions, elementary First Aid and the Dos & Don’ts in the event of a snake bite. Moreover, the presentation included the types of snakes, their habitat, and food. The session elicited a very good response and participation from all the attendees especially during the Question & Answer portion.
