Managing the Research Workflow: How is your university achieving its goals

The guest speaker for the workshop was Mr. Jamal el Ouahi, Head of Science Solutions Consultants, MENA Science Group, Clarivate, Dubai. With over 15 years of experience, Mr. Jamal has worked with many stakeholders dealing with data, analytics, and information in various industries. As Solutions Consultant at Clarivate Analytics, he collaborates now with governments, funding agencies, universities, and research centers helping them drive discovery and innovation in the MENA region. He is also a researcher at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University in the Netherlands. 

UTAS- Al Musannah, through the Research Committee of the Business Studies Department under the guidance of Dr. Aziza Abdallah Humaid Alqamashoui, in continued collaboration with Clarivate Analytics, a global leader in providing trusted insights and analytics to accelerate the pace of innovation, organized a workshop titled “Managing the Research Workflow: How is your university achieving its goals?” on 15th March 2022. This initiative was supported by Ms. Houda Sarouaou, Regional Account Director, Turkey & GCC, IP group of Clarivate. 

 

The speaker commenced the session by highlighting the challenges faced by academic research institutions and the role of Clarivate Analytics to avoid such challenges. The session emphasized on university’s effective collaboration with other universities and the corporate world. The speaker demonstrated the Clarivate platform for benchmarking and collaboration. The speaker elaborated about managing the research workflow of a university in a complex and dynamic world. Mr. Jamal also addressed the following issues: 

 

  • How do you know if faculty members are pursuing novel topics? 
  • Is your institution missing opportunities? 
  • Are students and faculty members using the best available research? 
  • Do you have a publication strategy? 
  • Are your faculty collaborating effectively? 
  • Are your funding applications as competitive as they could be? 
  • How do you demonstrate your institution’s value to stakeholders? 
  • How well does your institution capitalize on research that has commercial potential? 

 

The speaker highlighted Clarivate services and solutions for academic administrators and universities for enhancing research workflow in their organization. The event was followed by a question and answer session where the participants were encouraged to raise their concerns and get more insights about research workflow management in an academic institution.
