In the event of Pi-Day, the Mathematics Section of the IT Department conducted a two-day workshop on "Statistical Interpretation and Visualization Using R–Research Perspective: Why, What, and How” on 13th and 14th March 2022. The goal of this workshop was to provide statistical concepts and implementation of R programming in addressing research gaps in all Cs and Ds of UTAS-Al Musannah.

The session started with an opening note from Ms. Mini Punnolli, HoS Mathematics Section of the IT Department. She welcomed all the participants and the presenter and wished everyone a meaningful Pi-Day.

On the first day, the workshop facilitator, Dr. Dheva Rajan S discussed the data types and the various tools in statistics and explained the why and the how. Dr. Dheva also introduceed R programming from the alpha level to the execution of statistical quantities in R programming. He concretely pointed out the distinction between statistical quantities and their applicability in the context of research.

The second day started with an exercise in R programming based on the discussion on the previous day. Many research questions, research gaps, statistical gaps of published research papers, dos and don’ts in writing research articles, and the appropriateness of the statistical design and methods at various research levels were discussed by the facilitator. He explained these various concepts by identifying the gaps in the diagrams of the published research papers, reviewers, and editorial comments.

Though the queries of the participants were addressed during the workshop, a special interactive time was allocated for questions at the end of each session on both days. The participants were so enthusiastic about asking specific research questions which were effectively addressed by the facilitator. The interaction part became one of the many highlights of the said workshop.

The two-day event ended with a vote of thanks from the facilitator, Dr. Dheva Rajan S. He thanked the UTAS-A administration, IT Department, Math Section, the organizers, and all the participants.
