CEBA Staff Visit SOHAR ALUMINIUM


The Industrial Link and Community Engagement Committee of the College of Economics and Business Administration (CEBA) organized an industrial visit for staff to Sohar Aluminum on 16 November 2023. The visit allowed the CEBA staff to see Sohar Aluminum, a company formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark greenfield aluminum smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman and is jointly owned by OQ SAOC, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto. By implementing decades of industry insight in its design, specification, and construction, Sohar Aluminum has been created to ensure efficiency, environmental protection, and the utmost safety for its workforce. The smelter has an annual production capacity of 395,000 tons of high-quality Aluminum.

Mr. Jameel Mohammed Shakeel, the Corporate Communications & Social Responsibility Manager hosted the visit and provided valuable information about the company`s operations. The visit provided the staff with the opportunity to explore the manufacturing process, EHS principles, risk management, and quality standards of the company.  

During the visit, Mr. Abdulaziz Al Jahdhami, Communications Superintendent, delivered a brief introduction to the company. He highlighted the company`s mission, vision, and key milestones during its journey. He also gave a clear idea about their health and safety policy, human rights, and quality policy to the team. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the company’s production area etc.

The visit to Sohar Aluminum Company was an enlightening experience for all the participants as they were able to have the unique opportunity to learn about real-world practices and gain valuable insights into the industries in today’s competitive business environment. With this, the CEBA staff are grateful to the Sohar Aluminum team for their warm hospitality and willingness to share their knowledge and expertise with the group.
