UTAS-A Students Place 2nd in the Robotic Challenge Competition at the 4th IEEE Oman SYP Congress

February 27, 2024

A team of UTAS-A students has achieved remarkable success by winning the second prize in the Robotic Challenge Competition at the 4th IEEE Oman SYP Congress on February 27, 2024, at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman. This achievement highlights the students' prowess and underscores the collaborative efforts and guidance provided by the faculty members and leadership within the academic institution.

The IEEE Oman SYP Congress is renowned for providing an exceptional environment where students can exhibit their academic prowess and innovative talents. Organized by different IEEE Chapters in Oman, this congress encompasses various competition rounds to nurture and promote student excellence.

The competition at SQU, structured with precision, featured three distinctive levels, each presenting unique challenges that pushed the boundaries of participants' creativity and technical acumen. Initially, participants were tasked with creating an autonomous robot for a Path Navigator on a Search Mission. This demanded a combination of advanced programming and innovative engineering to enable the robot to navigate autonomously.

The second level was introduced with a pipe climbing robot within a time limit. Participants must build an autonomous robot placed in an inclined position. The aim is to create autonomous robots capable of inspecting and navigating pipe systems. Finally, the third task was to build an autonomous robot for finding and collecting objects, named Waste Collecting and Segregating Robot in Action.

Below are the students and staff who comprise the winning team.
