IT Staff Discuss Fundamentals of Research & Paper Publication

The Human Resource Development Committee (HRDC) of the IT Department, in collaboration with the Research, Consultation, and Industrial Innovation Committee, organized a professional development session on 'Directions for Beginning a Research' on 24 October 2023. The session was led by the resource person, Dr. Bazeer Ahamed of the IT Department, who was welcomed by Ms. Jiyamole Jose, the HRDC Coordinator.

 

The purpose of the presentation was to introduce the fundamentals of various types of research, methods of data collection and analysis, and common challenges faced by researchers. In addition, the presenter dealt with the main aspects of paper publication, such as indexing and abstracting, journal impact factor, journal ranking, and the importance of creating ORCID ID.

The presenter listed the popular indexing databases like Scopus, and Web of Science, explaining the benefits of having research articles indexed and abstracted for visibility and citation potential, and mentioned various other journal ranking systems. He explained what an ORCID ID is and its significance in establishing researcher identity and outlined the steps to create an ORCID ID. Finally, the resource person highlighted the importance of publishing research papers on reputable platforms and discussed different publishing options, including open-access journals that are freely accessible to readers for easy retrieval and visibility. At the end of the session, Mr. P Sivaraman, HRDC Committee member, thanked the presenter and the participants for making the event a great success.
